Did you ever see a murder, did it flash before your eyes? Did the culprit get away unscathed, did they look for him at all? Did the gunshots find their way to you, did they crash upon the ground? Or did you give them a home? Did the law remain a proverb, did it retain its simple words? Did you follow it to the letter, did you reap all its rewards? Did the blood that coated your front porch soak into your flowers? And did it help them bloom? Did the prints stay on the weapon, did they leave a clear path? Did you get away in time, did the doors break down around you? Did the single wound that ripped through tear open your gates? And did the bars finally fall? How did you erase the trail, and why did you, the same? Who was it that lost their life and what, oh what, was the cause? Where did all the ashes all, and when did they hit the ground? Did they prove a gentle rain or a storm to write their history?

Cool your motor down a bit I can't get information through Then again I've got plenty of hardware that I really should use It's time to open up your brain it's time to operate Maybe you'll fall asleep and not feel asleep Identify these bones for me what kind of gravity they have what is pulled and what is repelled surely there must be variation They're very handsome specimens when I see them in the light Maybe he was killed instantly And didn't feel a thing Here's the bomb and the detonator Now you do your people good! Let em' love your sacrifice and talk about you over lunch Well, it's time, you best be off You'll need a lot of action and courage Maybe it will be quite fast And you won't feel a thing

If you're listening to this song You may think the chords are going wrong But they're not We just wrote it like that When you're listening late at night You may think the band are not quite right But they are They just play it like that It doesn't really matter what chords I play What words I say or time of day it is As it's only a Northern song It doesn't really matter what clothes I wear Or how I fare or if my hair is brown When it's only a Northern song If you think the harmony Is a little dark and out of key You're correct There's nobody there

Hypnotized 04:58
It's the same kind of story That seems to come down from long ago Two friends having coffee together When something flies by their window It might be out on that lawn Which is wide, at least half of a playing field Because there's no explaining what your imagination Can make you see and feel Seems like a dream They got me hypnotized Now it's not a meaningless question To ask if they've been and gone I remember a talk about North Carolina and a strange, strange pond You see the sides were like glass In the thick of a forest without a road And if any man's ever made that land Then I think it would've showed They say there's a place down in Mexico Where a man can fly over mountains and hills And he don't need an airplane or some kind of engine And he never will Now you know it's a meaningless question To ask if those stories are right Because what matters most is the feeling you get when you're hypnotized

He was sitting in the lounge of the Empire Hotel He was drinking for diversion He was thinking for himself A little money riding on the Maple Leafs * Along comes a lady in lacy sleeves She says let me sit down You know, drinkin' alone's a shame It's a shame it's a crying shame Look at those jokers Glued to that damn hockey game Hey honey-you've got lots of cash Bring us round a bottle And we'll have some laughs Gin's what I'm drinking I was raised on robbery I'm a pretty good cook I'm sitting on my groceries Come up to my kitchen I'll show you my best recipe I try and I try but I can't save a cent I'm up after midnight cooking Trying to make my rent I'm rough but I'm pleasin' I was raised on robbery We had a little money once They were pushing through a four lane highway Government gave us three thousand dollars You should have seen it fly away First he bought a '57 Biscayne He put it in the ditch He drunk up all the rest That son of a bitch His blood's bad whiskey I was raised on robbery You know you ain't bad looking I like the way you hold your drinks Come home with me honey I ain't asking for no full length mink Hey, where you going Don't go yet Your glass ain't empty and we just met You're mean when you're loaded I was raised on robbery

There will come a time when everybody who is lonely Will be free to sing and dance and love There will come a time when every evil that we know Will be an evil that we can rise above Who cares if hair is long or short or sprayed or partly grayed? We know that hair ain't where it's at There will come a time when you won't even be ashamed if you are fat There will come a time when everybody who is lonely Will be free to sing and dance and love (dance and love) There will come a time when every evil that we know Will be an evil that we can rise above (rise above) Who cares if you're so poor you can't afford To buy a pair of mod-a-go-go stretch elastic pants? There will come a time when you can even take your clothes off when you dance

Do you remember things you said at any point in your life? Not to be confused with things you think Do you believe that men can be both good and evil at one time? Not to be confused with neither one Keep a clear distinction between fact and fiction And you'll be one step ahead of me Do you think I'm a good man even though I leave a bad tip? Not to be confused with being cheap Do you want to have some faith in intuition and instinct? Not to be confused with evolution Keep a clear dichotomy between fact and fantasy And you'll really have the drop on me

Dirty Lew 07:19
How does it feel to be wrong about everything? Welcome everyone, to a town called Dirty Lew A place where everyone is just a normal guy like you It was founded in 1795 and made textiles for the nation And the mills are still runnin' with the same regulation Dirty Lew, what are you gonna do when your river runs dry? Don't you wanna see what you can be? You're gonna make it before you die How does it feel to be wrong about everything? You'll find out in time, my friend And now, it is my pleasure to present to you fine, fine people The Homeless Youth Symphony Orchestra of Lewiston and Auburn Properties from Russia and all over the globe Placed in patterns that suggest the absence of a lobe If Dempsey saw the willie-nillies trundled in the street, He'd save his dinners for all of them to eat

She wandered through the garden fence and said, 'I've brought at great expense a potion guaranteed to bring relief from all your suffering.' And though I said, 'You don't exist,' she grasped me firmly by the wrist and threw me down upon my back and strapped me to her torture rack And, without further argument I found my mind was also bent upon a course so devious it only made my torment worse She said, 'I see you cannot speak is it your voice that is too weak? Is it your tongue that is to blame? Maybe you cannot speak for shame. Or has your brain been idle too, and now it will not think for you?' I hastened to make my reply but found that I could only lie

Ondine 05:40
Ondine You won All she left behind was an unloaded gun And my face Is blushin' From all the things she's done You couldn't miss that girl 'Cause here she comes Ondine Back up Run over my body with your pick-up truck And finish What you started Because I'm done I searched the whole room over To find these words She said: "I had the strangest dream I dreamed I killed you again Don't make me kill you again 'Cause I couldn't bear to kill you Again" Ondine Was here You couldn't even take away a souvenir Of what's left Of that swinger She used to call me that I searched the whole room over To find these words She said: "I had the strangest dream I dreamed I killed you again Don't make me kill you again 'Cause I couldn't bear to kill you I had the strangest dream I dreamed I killed you again Don't make me kill you again 'Cause I couldn't bear to kill you Again"

How're you going to make your way in the world When you weren't cut out for working When your fingers are slender and frail How're you going to get around In this sleazy bedroom town If you don't put yourself up for sale Where will you go with your scarves and your miracles Who's gonna know who you are Drugs and wine and flattering light You must try it again till you get it right Maybe you'll end up with someone different every night All these people with no home to go home to They'd all like to spend the night with you Maybe I would, too But tell me How're you going to make your way in the world, woman When you weren't cut out for working And you just can't concentrate And you always show up late You said you were an actress Yes, I believe you are I thought you'd be a star So I drank up all the money, Yes, I drank up all the money, With these phonies in this Hollywood bar, These friends of mine in this Hollywood bar Loneliness and frustration We both came down with an acute case And when the lights came up at two I caught a glimpse of you And your face looked like something Death brought with him in his suitcase Your pretty face It looked so wasted Another pretty face Devastated The French Inhaler He stamped and mailed her "So long, Norman" She said, "So long, Norman"
